I’ve been using TeamBox (yes, that’s an affiliate link, just hit teambox.com if you’d rather not use that link) for a couple months now. They have free and premium plans as well as a self-hosted option. Things are basically broken down in facebook like conversations and task lists.
You can upload your own docs or it links to Google Docs. It’s been a great way for a couple of groups I work with to collaborate on different projects I’m involved in. They also have time-tracking I’m using for some free-lance projects I have going on.
Oh, in response to the Japan earthquakes they have started a great program where they’re giving free Pro accounts to government agencies that deal with “relief” type services and non-profit organizations. Check https://teambox.com/givingback for details on that.

I’m surprised Basecamp isn’t on here, it’s usually first up. The others look like a good alternative however. Thanks.

Project Management Tools

Project Management Tools are available ranging from individual modules to enterprise level, specialized for specific area or entire project management lifecycle management, depending upon your needs. These tools are useful because they can help you to keep track of many different aspects of project management. You can use these tools separately or as part of a larger PM software program. Here we will talk about some of the most valuable tools that are available. We will also talk about why many people choose to use these modules together as an integrated program rather than as separate software programs.

I’m surprised the main free alternative to Basecamp – Teamlab.com isn’t mentioned.
We have been using it for almost a year and never met a better system.
Check it out, I’m sure, it will impress you the same way))

This is a super site of info. It’s sites like these providing free research where there are so many collaborative software solutions that you don’t where to begin looking even though you really need one. We looked at quite a few of these Producteev, Work etc Project Turf as well as many others recommended from other sites. We eventually chose Dooster and are so relieved as we knew we would be. You can’t really function in an organisation without collaborative software nowadays. Thanks to you for making the search easier.

Are these tools completely free or they have got just a free trail version?

I think only FreedCamp is the only free one, but if you want or need more storage or more cool aps – then you need to pay.

I think only FreedCamp is the only free one, others only offer free-trail periods and then they require subscription.
